In Search of Neptune
In 1990, a quarter of century after the launch of Enterprise Neptune, the National Trust asked me to write a book about this remarkable project, which by then had helped to protect some 900 miles of coastline. Over several months, I visited some of the most glorious parts of England, Wales and Northern Ireland, including Cornwall, Dorset, Suffolk, Northumberland, Pembrokeshire and Co Antrim. I talked to wardens and farmers; to fishermen and historians; to the keepers of historic buildings and people met by chance along coastal footpaths and in nearby pubs.
In Search of Neptune tells the story of one of the most successful conservation programmes in Western Europe. The book is illustrated with photographs taken by Joe Cornish. If you want to see more of his work, take a look at his gallery website.
